Let’s look behind door number ten…
Ooh, it’s our first Belgian, Speciale Noel a 9% Strong Ale from La Binchoise.
Speciale Noel pours a cloudy amber gold with minimal white head that has excellent retention. There is a yeasty nose, sweet with a tinge of sour, quite reminiscent of a cider. Taste wise you get a bit of tart fruitiness, caramel malts and some spices. Speciale Noel holds its high ABV quite well as there is enough body to carry the complexity of flavours going on here. Definitely a winter warmer; you get that warming sensation deep in your stomach as you drink. Speciale Noel has a dry quality to it and the finish leaves you with an apple cider tartness. Overall a really stellar Belgian for any time of the year but the strength of this one makes it an especially nice winter treat.
I am giving Speciale Noel eight candy canes.
