Trois Monts – Brasserie de Saint Sylvestre “Bière de garde (a type of French ale)”

This bottle of 3 Monts has been sitting in our cupboard for far too long finally emerging to assist my partner and me in playing Harry Potter Lego.  3 Monts comes in a large (750ml) corked bottle and when poured it is a lovely golden colour with some effervescence.  Initially my partner thought this beer smelled a little like Molson Canadian but it sure did not taste like it.  This ale is a nice strength 8.5% with just the right amount of hops and spices (maybe even some vanilla?).  For the record I should be upfront with my bias; I am definitely not what one might consider a ‘hop head’ so I tend to notice hops at first taste.  The beer is easy to drink and crisp pairing nicely with the salty snacks and ginger based dessert we were having that night.   Overall, this is a great beer to stock up on, definitely a middle of the road crowd pleaser for your casual connoisseur.

Out of a possible 5 I would give this beer a 4 with my better half skewing towards a 4.5
